Lou Nuer youths who are sieging Pibor town in Jonglei State since Saturday have tried to occupy today the army garrison in the town without success.
About 1,000 SPLA and UNMISS military are defending sensitive areas in Pibor from some 6,000 Lou Nuer attackers.SPLA spokesperson Colonel Phillip Aguer Panyang told CRN News over the phone that the warriors attacked the army barracks this morning but were repulsed and retreated.
Yesterday, the President of the Republic Salva Kiir Mayardit ordered the deployment of extra soldiers and police to Pibor in a bid to stop the fighting in the county.
Col. Aguer said the police left Bor yesterday and the soldiers should have followed today.
The Colonel said the forces should reach Pibor in one day if the roads were okay.
Over 25,000 people fled Pibor into the bush ahead of the Lou Nuer attack last Saturday.
The Government appealed to the Lou Nuer warriors to return to their land with the promise that the authorities will address their grievances and return women and children abducted last August by the Murle community.
