The Dinka Atuot community residing in Tonj South County of Warrap state marked the beginning of 2012 with a traditional wrestling match at Freedom Square.
The game opposed wrestlers from Tonj town and from cattle camps, Radio Don Bosco reported.Alfred Kocnoor, who led the Tonj team, said the town wrestlers defeated the boys from cattle camps: 5-3 on aggregate.
He applauded the people he represents for the victory.
Mr Kocnoor said wrestling is their football, a sport that does not lead to violence.
He urged Dinka Rek people to learn wrestling from the Atuot community, explaining that the sport is taught from childhood through practicing.
Abeer Yakgon, the leader of cattle camp competitors, admitted defeat saying they will improve their techniques.
He added that the event was organized to celebrate the coming of the New Year with happiness.
Mr Yakgon said wrestling is not a regular feature because the cattle camps are far from the town and they fear cattle raiders attack them if they are absent.
He noted that their wrestlers are not experienced fighters.
