South Sudan’s oil has been taken out from the US sanctions’ list since December 8.

The US ambassador to South Sudan Suzan Page told the press today in Juba that the move will enable oil companies to import equipment and other items coming through Sudan to develop the oil industry.

Ms. Page praised South Sudan’s efforts to join the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

She said the move will ensure that the resources are managed properly to benefit the people of South Sudan.

The US ambassador urged the private sector and local NGOs to assist the Government to manage its resources properly.

Ms. Page said these decisions were reached during last week’s International Engagement Conference hosted by the US government in Washington-DC.
