South Sudan almost lost its entire data on Saturday when burglars broke into the Public Information Centre in Juba, stealing computers, printers and a television set.
The Public Information Centre keeps all the country’s information and it is run by the Ministry of Information. The news of the break in was brought to the attention of the press today by Justin Alier, who directs the centre.
He said six computers, a big flat screen TV set and many printers were stollen.
He added that robbers broke one window and almost all doors at the Centre.
Mr. Alier said the centre did not lose any information since there is a back up system.
Information minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin described the thieves as people without patriotic feelings.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police and report suspicious computer sellers on the black market.
This is the second time a public institution is robbed this month. The National Census and Statistic Commission was broken into last week and robbers took away thousands of pounds and equipment.
