The national government has moved the VIPs luncheon tent used during the independence celebrations from Dr John Garang Mausoleum grounds to land belonging to the University of Juba.

The head of the company that moved the tents told CRN News yesterday that they were asked by the presidency to relocate the tents to the land behind the Computer College, a department of the University of Juba.

He said there was a committee of 20 persons including Dr Peter Mareno assigned by the government to supervise the relocation works.

The contractor said the tent is to be ready in less than one month to be used for parliament’s meetings and government’s conventions.

Earlier, another official from the same company said the land belongs to Vice President Riek Machar Teny, who was seen by a CRN journalist more than one month ago inspecting the site.

The principal of University of Juba, Prof Wani Sule, said the administration was aware of the activities at the land that belongs to the institution, but there was no official information about who is involved in it.

The main tent accommodates 1,500 people. It could make about eight lecture halls if the university administration was allowed to use it.
