Over 18,000 children were immunized against polio during last week’s vaccination campaign.

The manager of the Expanded Program on Immunization in Lakes State Simon Makoi Maker told Good News Radio that immunizers were able to reach 18,777 children under the age of five in Lakes State.

Mr Makoi said the number is based on provisional data received via mobile phone from the six counties.

Aweirial and Rumbek North counties did not send their data yet due to lack of mobile phone coverage.

Mr Makoi emphasized the need for good collaboration between parents, guardians and immunizers to ensure that all children are vaccinated against polio.

He said vaccines against polio are always available at the ministry of health and urged parents whose children may have missed out during the four days immunization drive to report to the Ministry.

The fourth round of anti-polio vaccines is scheduled for mid-December.
