One person was killed and two injured by a landmine blast in Mayom County, Unity State.

A local source told CRN News that the blast took place along the Bentiu-Nhialdiu road on Saturday evening when a civilian car blew up a land mine.

Earlier on the day one vehicle was damaged by another land mine but there were no casualties to register in that incident.

One rebel from the South Sudan Liberation Movement captured in the recent clashes in Mayom told the Army that the group had 30 mines and planted six in the area.

The SPLA was able to find two mines and another two were blown up by civilian vehicles. The remaining two are still putting at risk people who drive around Bentiu.

The UN has classified the Bentiu – Thar Jath, Bentiu √ɬê Unity, Bentiu √ɬê Mayom and Bentiu – Nhialdiu roads not safe and to be avoided.
