A member of a civil society group from Lakes state has expressed concern about the prevailing unfavourable economic conditions in the region.

Paulino Mading Meen from South Sudan Civil Society Alliance told Good News Radio he wondered why Lakes State citizens have been quiet over high food prices, adding that it is unfair for traders to continue hiking prices of basic goods.

He noted that three quarters of Lakes State’s population are without a job and have a low economic power, and it is very difficult to survive due to the high prices in the local markets.

Mr. Mading said he is surprised how traders in Lakes State have resolved to persistently increase prices in the full glare of local authorities.

He pointed out that citizens have a civil responsibility to speak out when social life is affected.

Prices of local goods like meat, chicken, vegetables, groundnuts, and charcoal have increased by between 50 and 100 percent in Lakes State in a span of two weeks, to say nothing about the imported goods including maize flour, rice, sugar and powder milk.
