The press has an important role to play in the dissemination of information and in nation building.
Information minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin said today in Juba that the information passed by the media can influence the society in both positive and negative ways, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said the media plays a critical role in nation building because it represents stability and combats rumours that pin citizens against one another.
Dr. Marial added that information empowers citizens to take up their role in society.
The minister recalled that the media played a very negative role in Rwandan genocide in 1984 by passing hate messages.
