Most of the court cases in Lakes State are related to rape offenses.

The President of Lakes State High Court, Justice Raimondo Legge, told Good News Radio that the majority of persons with cases in the courts of Lakes State have been accused of rape.

He described rape as illicit sexual intercourse with persons below 18 years of age with or without consent.

Justice Legge said Lakes State Customary Law Act 2010 penalizes those convicted of rape with the payment of ten cows.

Justice Legge said the Judicial Commission of South Sudan has asked him to compile all pending cases in his circle because the new Chief Justice is launching some mobile courts for an effective and swift execution of judicial services.

He explained that mobile judges will be commissioned according to the compiled reports.

Justice Legge said the judiciary is working hard to take justice to the people.

He added that local courts are under construction in the eight counties of Lakes State.

Justice Legge advised anyone being held in custody under unclear circumstances to write an appeal against the detention.

He called upon the local chiefs to cooperate with law enforcers in apprehending criminals.
