The retired bishop of Torit appealed to the Ma’di and Acholi communities of Magwi County, in Eastern Equatoria, to remain calm and resolve their land dispute by keeping the peace.

Bishop Paride Taban told SCR News that he was informed about growing tensions between the Ma’di and Acholi communities who dispute the ownership of Ame Junction, in Magwi.

He said on Monday two people were killed in a fight between youths from both communities.

Bishop Paride added that there must be some outsiders behind the tensions in Magwi County.

The Bishop appealed to both communities to keep the peace and settle their differences through dialogue.

He said violence is no solution to violence and both Ma’di and Acholi are educated, peace loving and related communities.

Bishop Taban made this appeal in Wau where he is attending the Catholic bishops’ plenary assembly.

Tensions at Ame Junction started last month and claimed already four lives.
