The Acting Vice Chancellor of Rumbek University has confirmed that the admission of first year students will still be delayed, due to lack of basic facilities.
Michael Maker Mangony told Good News Radio that the institution could not open its doors to the new students due to lack of lecture halls, dormitories and dining halls. He said the University is asking the national Ministry of Higher Education to allow them to use the Unicef premises which they are presently sharing with the Institute of Education.
Prof. Maker said first year students will start classes as soon as the basic facilities are in place.
Celestino Maluak Deng, one of the first year students, said it was unclear when exactly the Rumbek University will be ready to admit them, blaming the administration for the silence over the matter.
He urged the administration to keep the students informed using the available media.
There is no construction of buildings at the University of Rumbek.
The institution registered over 600 first year students this year in the faculties of Economics and Education, most of whom are returnees from East Africa and Khartoum.
