Community dialogue on Magwi border tensions between Uganda and South Sudan ended without reaching the expected consensus.
The two-day open discussions which took place in Pajok Payam were headed by Magwi County Commissioner, Peter Ochilo, and the area MP Ochan John, Bakhita Radio reported. The Ugandan delegates were led by the Resident District Commissioner Omony Ogaba, LC5 Chairman Ochen Mathew and District Police Commander Walugambe Robert.
Magwi authorities accused Uganda of establishing administrative posts and grading the road inside South Sudan territory, integrating 18 kilometres of Magwi’s land into Lamwo district of Northern Uganda.
Uganda denied the accusations.
Commissioner Ochilo said it was crucial to respect the borders the ancestors left and the new generations should know where they were.
The hopes the commissioner expressed for a fruitful conference did not materialize because the Ugandan delegation refused to sign the resolutions presented at the Pajok conference, alleging lack of mandate to do so.
