The three-day catholic symposium attended by participants from Sudan and South Sudan ended on Sunday with a Eucharistic celebration at St. Theresa Cathedral in Juba.

Archbishop Paulino Lokudu Loro of Juba introduced the Eucharist that was presided over Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako of Khartoum.

Archbishop Lukudu said the Catholic Church will not look behind in contributing to an effective independent South Sudan.

Cardinal Zubeir urged the people of South Sudan to translate the freedom brought by the independence into concrete actions.

Meanwhile, President Salva Kiir appreciated the effort of the Catholic Church in the country and encouraged the Church to work side by side with the government.

The President also said the amnesty he declared during the independence is still holding and asked all those who have rebelled against the new nation to return home and join in building their country.
