Over 200 lorries carrying much needed food and fuel supplies are stuck in Wulu County of Lakes State due to heavy rains that made the road impassable.

Wulu County Commissioner Ezekiel Thiang Mangar told Good News Radio over the phone that there are over 200 loaded trucks unable to proceed to Greater Bahr El Ghazal, and nine of them are in Wulu town, some 32 kilometres South of Rumbek.

He said the trucks are transporting fuel and food items including sugar, cooking oil, onions and some goods are already getting spoiled.

Rev. Thiang explained that the lorries got stuck due to heavy rains and bad roads that were not repaired for over six years.

He said machineries were brought to drain the road and locals offered stones free of charge.

Rev. Thiang remarked that the poor state of the roads is having a negative impact on the economy because roads are vital means for transporting goods and people.

South Sudan continues to suffer a rise in the cost of basic goods due to the high cost of transportation besides the unpredictable and unfavourable hard currency market.
