Gunmen raided residents at Hileu Boma in Himodonge Payam of Eastern Equatoria on Thursday taking a large number of cattle with them.

Tobiolo Oromo, a member of Eastern Equatoria Legislative Assembly, received a telephone call when the raiders attempted to attack a car along the Imotong-Torit road.

He told Emmanuel Radio that his driver said he met the raiders crossing the road with the stolen cattle.

The passengers had to hide in the bush to avoid being shot at by the thieves.

Mr. Oromo said he informed the security immediately after the call but when they reached the area the raiders and the animals were gone.

Over 600 heads of cattle were recently recovered by a combined security operation in Imurok Payam, Torit County, from a gang of criminals who had threatened to kill the owners of the animals.

Torit County Commissioner, Felix Otuduha Siro, said the gang had plotted with butchers to slaughter the animals for sale in Torit.

The commissioner said security forces have so far recovered over 1,000 animals from raiders in the county this year alone.
