Moyo authorities in Northern Uganda are reacting against Kajo Keji residents in need of essential services due to an ongoing dispute over the border between the two countries.
Kajo Keji County Commissioner Muki Batali Buli told SCR News that contrary to previous arrangements Moyo authorities are asking 50 US dollars from local people in order to cross the border. He said a very sick man being referred to Moyo hospital was turned back at the border because he did not have the money to pay his visa.
Mr. Batali said the border problem escalated at the beginning of September when a Ugandan high delegation visited a disputed border area in Bamure Boma and declared it a sub county of Moyo District.
Mr. Batali blames the Moyo authorities for the current dispute over a vast area of fertile land that he says is part of South Sudan and occupied by South Sudanese.
He added that Moyo authorities gave verbal warnings to South Sudanese living in the district to leave the area by the end of September.
Some people have already left the disputed areas fearing escalation of tensions.
Mr. Batali said he believed that Juba and Kampala governments have displayed enough political will to solve the problem.
