The government of South Sudan has denied accusations that it is involved in the fighting in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, in Sudan.
Yesterday, Sudan’s Defence minister Abdul al-Rahim Mohammed told MPs during an emergency debate on the war in Blue Nile that South Sudan was sending troops to support the SPLA-North in South Kordofan and Blue Nile State.
National government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press this morning in Juba that neither the Government nor the army are giving any assistance to the forces fighting in Blue Nile and South Kordofan.
Dr. Marial said the government of South Sudan is committed to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that contains the popular consultation as the peaceful solution to the conflict in both special areas.
He urged the government of Khartoum to honour the CPA and its implementation with regard to the special areas.
The spokesperson made the statement during the weekly Ministry of Information’s Media Forum that resumed today.
