Clashes that took place in Tonj East County, Warrap State, between the end of June and mid-August have claimed more than 100 lives but security has returned to the area.
Tonj East County Commissioner Gai Maluok told Don Bosco FM that 104 people were killed in the clashes, including 17 women, two children and the executive chief.He said cattle raiding among three Dinka sections of Tonj East caused the war.
The commissioner added security was restored after SPLA and police forces were deployed in the area.
Mr. Maluok said many people who fled the area fearing revenge attacks have gone back to their homes.
The commissioner told Tonj East residents displaced in Tonj South not to rely on rumours of further clashes in the county.
Mr. Maluok said investigations are going on and some people were already arrested.
The commissioner made these statements yesterday at a meeting with Tonj East residents displaced in Tonj South County.
