The SPLM-DC has strongly denied links with militia leader George Athor and allegations that an arrested general belongs to the party.
Major General Philip Lasuba Magishu was arrested last month in Agoro-Uganda by the intelligence wing of the Ugandan army and handed over to the SPLA after he identified himself as South Sudanese, Bakhita Radio reported. He allegedly said during questioning that he belongs to Mr. Athor’s staff and that his chief was a SPLM-DC member.
SPLM-DC Deputy spokesperson Yeka Peter told the press today in Juba that Mr. Lasuba was not a party member and his allegations were baseless.
Mr. Yeka accused the SPLM to use Mr. Lasuba to destabilize and discredit his party.
He asked Mr. Lasuba to prove and make public his claimed SPLM-DC membership.
Mr. Yeka said Dr. Akol did not take arms against the SPLA and does not have any links with Mr. Athor.
He added that the SPLM-DC is a political party and it does not have armed militias.
The statement comes just after Mr. Lasuba was arrested and alleged links between George Athor and Lam Akol.
