The South Sudan National Assembly approved today the 29 ministers and the 27 deputy ministers appointed by the President of the Republic last week amid criticisms from the opposition that the House rushed the approval without following the proper procedure.

The seating was chaired by deputy speaker Daniel Awet Akot.

SCR News spoke with some of the MPs.

Muraj Mesek said the House screened the cabinet and it is satisfied that they are the right people to deliver services to the people of South Sudan.

Munira Abdullah, from Pachalla County of Jonglei State, said the cabinet is dominated by the SPLM and therefore deserves to be supported of SPLM MPs in the assembly.

She added that now the Parliament has to control the work of the appointees.

Joy Kwaje Eluzai from Juba West constituency said the cabinet was overdue and it should be up and running.

However, the approval did not go well with the opposition.

Andrew Okony Ayom, opposition chief whip and member of the SPLM-DC, said the approval did not follow the right procedures.

SPLM MP Ramadhan Hassan Lako from Terekeka said President Kiir has openly acknowledged corruption among top government officials.

He said he wanted the cabinet to be scrutinized so that it does not include suspected corrupt officials.

The seating was attended by 210 members.

Seven SPLM-DC MPs voted against the cabinet.
