South Sudan has been urged to ensure that peacemaking and reconciliation are fully incorporated in its administration.

Janice McLaughlin of the Maryknoll Sisters said the two aspects are central in the present and future leadership of the new nation, CISA News reported.

Sr. McLaughlin added that disarmament and demobilization of ex-combatants was an immediate need after any war.

She said she was happy the new political administration under President Salva Kiir Mayardit has established an anti-corruption body to prevent misuse of public funds.

She added that the Maryknoll family – Sisters, Priests, Brothers and Lay missioners – have been in Sudan since 1976, when they were invited by the Bishops to start the pastoral institute in Juba.
