Northern Sudanese from Blue Nile and South Kordofan who fought for the SPLA during the north-south civil war are to be disarmed as part of a new deal.

The framework agreement signed by the Government of Sudan and the SPLM-North mediated by the African Union says that SPLA combatants from the two special areas will be integrated in the northern army or demobilised.

The new peace deal signed in Addis Ababa last evening commits the government of Khartoum and the SPLM North to negotiate a ceasefire in Southern Kordofan.
