Members of Eastern Equatoria Parliament passed a motion amending the new state flag ahead of independence.

Speaker Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi presided over the session to amend the state flag, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Most MPs voted in favour of the flag that has four coloured stripes: cream at the top and bottom to represent natural resources, and black and red in the middle to symbolize the race and the blood shed during the struggle for freedom.

The MPs also approved the Eastern Equatoria logo: an oval green circle with a moving cheetah at the centre looking sideways as symbol for the nature of Eastern Equatorians who are organized and quick to act.

The speaker said that the House on Monday will deliberate over the logos of three counties.
