There are over 15,000 South Sudanese street children in various states of Northern Sudan.

Upper Nile state Minister of Gender and Social Welfare Martha Nyamal told MPs at the state assembly that there were over 15,000 children from South Sudan living in the streets of Kosti and other places in Northern Sudan, Voice of Love FM reported.

She said she planned to bring those street children home to South Sudan because they would face humiliation after the independence.

She added that the children were from all ten states of South Sudan and not from Upper Nile alone.

Ms Nyamal said her ministry established a Street Children Centre that accommodates up to 200 kids in Malakal Market.

She recognized that the place was not the best but at least the street children had a space where to eat and sleep.

Ms Nyamal said though there were some challenges, her ministry managed to employ over 40 widows at the Street Children Centre.

The minister made these statements while presenting her policy statement to the Upper Nile Legislative Assembly.
