There are about 800 street children in Eastern Equatoria: over 500 survive helplessly on the streets of Torit and Kapoeta while some 300 others are in Juba and other towns.
Eastern Equatoria culture and social development minister Magdalene Beato Atiol disclosed the numbers yesterday during the commemoration of the Day of African Child in Torit, Emmanuel Radio reported.The minister lamented that the disadvantaged children experience various hardships including forced labour to sexual exploitation.
She said children’s best interests should be taken into account in every development undertaking in Eastern Equatoria.
