Fuel supplies and prices have normalized in Malakal after the government of Khartoum lifted the economic blockade on South Sudan in place since May.

Malakal Nile Petroleum Company manager Nyibil Othowl told Saut Al-Mahaba radio that fuel prices return to normal after the reopening of trade between the North and the South.

He said the fuel crisis was caused by a blockade from Khartoum and lack of storage facilities in the South.

Mr. Othowl added that a gallon of diesel cost now 9.50 Sudanese pounds while the same amount of petrol goes for 13 pounds.

He appealed to the government of South Sudan to build facilities to store fuel to avoid another gas crisis in the future.
