Women from Eastern Equatoria state contributed items and cash towards helping the victims of the recent military attack in Abyei.
Eastern Equatoria State Women Association, chaired by Alma Thomas, spearhead the collection of both food and no-food items, Emmanuel Radio reported.The donation includes clothes, salt, maize flour, cooking oil and soap among others items.
Davica Ikai Graciano, who is the vice chairperson of the association, said they handed the donations to the state governor to be transported tomorrow to the Abyei Contributions Committee in Juba.
Deputy governor Nartisio Manir Loluke expresses his gratitude for the collection and asked God to bless the women.
He said the initiative should not only end with Abyei but continue as emergency response to handle any disaster and help the victims.
He added that his government would copy and establish a response mechanism and secure items for any eventuality.
Mr. Loluke said the entire world has the responsibility to contribute to the development of the new nation, Abyei included.
He called for justice to prevail for the people of Abyei.
