Central Equatoria does not have enough space for thousands of returnee students who are trying to find a place in primary and secondary schools.

State minister of public service Stephen Lemi said about 800 secondary school candidates and another 4,000 in primary school age are still trying to enrol in Juba’s schools.

Esther Akumu, director for gender in the GoSS ministry of education, said schools in other states are facing the same lack of space for returnee students.

She cited a primary school in Lakes state that has more than 2,000 pupils.

The officials made these comments during a conference about education reconstruction and development in the new republic of South Sudan.
