The catholic bishop of Tombura-Yambio ordained five major seminarians to the order of deacons.
The ordination ceremony took place in Maridi Parish last Sunday, a church source told SCR News.Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala said in his homily said there has never been ordination in this Parish since 1974.
He explained he brought the ordination to Maridi to act as the first step towards the setup of a new diocese in South Sudan.
He added that first the faithful of Maridi have to send their sons to the seminaries and daughters to covenants.
The historic ordination was attended by Western Equatoria government officials, MPs and many faithful from all over the diocese.
It was the first time for the bishop to ordain five seminarians of one go.
Education minister Mr. Adel Sandrai, who represented the governor, said the government was happy to see the church growing in the region.
