The monthly Rule of Law Forum on human rights issues in South Sudan has been revived in Juba.

The forum looks into issues of human rights including arrest and detention and land grabbing.

UNDP Rule of Law project manager Emmanuel Joof told the participants at a consultative meeting to revive the forum that its aim was to bring together all law agents to discuss law issues.

He explained that the forum is an UNDP initiative to get different views from the police, judiciary, prison and the civil society on issues of rule of law in specific areas.

Mr. Joof said some forums were held previously in Central Equatoria but the program was neglected due to the focus on elections, referendum and development programmes.

Today’s Forum discussed the arrest and detention by the police and security agencies and issues of overcrowded prisons and rights of inmates on remand and convicts.

The forum will be held every month.
