The diocese of Wau started its pastoral program in preparation for independence with an Eucharistic procession attended by about 1,000 faithful.

The parish of St Joseph organized a large Eucharistic march on Saturday answering the call from the bishops of South Sudan who asked for intensive prayers for a peaceful independence.

Parish priest Jacob Thelekadan from the Salesian family, told Don Bosco Radio that the event marked the countdown to prepare the parishioners and people of Wau for the independence coming up in 40 days time.

Assistant parish priest David Tulimeli explained that the procession started from the Wau main market moving around the town with the Eucharist in a large turn-up.

He added that the three-hour well organized march was a prayerful celebration.

Fr. Tulimeli said the participants are eager to have their own country and were very prayerful throughout the march with lots of enthusiasm.

Wau’s St Joseph parish is organizing other pastoral activities to prepare the faithful for the independence in a peaceful ambiance.
