Traders in Rumbek on Thursday gathered at Akon Boui, close to Rumbek’s Freedom Square, to elect a new chairperson to lead their trade union.

Good News Radio caught up with the Chairperson of Rumbek Central Electoral Commission, James Kon Chadar.

Mr. Kon said that the union of traders in Rumbek brings together people from many parts of South Sudan and abroad, adding that all traders have the democratic right to be part of the union.

He revealed that the traders elected Francis Mading Dut to head their union, clarifying that the new leader has, in principle, a five-year mandate.

The union also elected Daniel Duche and Abraham Ajang to the positions of Vice chairperson and Finance officer respectively.
