A bus company yesterday suspended temporarily its services between Rumbek and Wau following an attack on one of its coaches on Tuesday evening.
Nationdit Rumbek manager Agueng Aguek told Good News Radio that there was an exchange of gunfire between security officers on the bus and armed civilians on the Rumbek-Wau road some 25 Kilometres from Rumbek.Nobody was injured in the shooing.
Mr. Aguek added that Nationdit decided to stop the Rumbek-Wau route after Tuesday’s attack.
He explained that the safety of passengers a major priority for the company.
Mr. Aguek appealed to the government of Lakes State and to the public to build peaceful coexistence, insisting that only unity can guarantee development.
He observed that insecurity along the Rumbek-Wau road has affected the flow of goods and people between the two towns and it is retarding progress in the region.
Sources revealed that the Nationdit bus was caught up in a retaliatory attack between the Dinka Agar of Rumbek Central County and the Dinka Gok of Cueibet County.
Travellers between Rumbek and Wau road are stranded in both towns.
