A GoSS minister has called private universities to fulfil certain conditions required to operate legally in the region.
Higher education minister Joseph Ukel said his ministry only recognized the Catholic University of the Sudan and the Nile Theological College among private higher learning institutions operating in South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.Mr. Ukel called upon the other 14 registered private universities to fulfil the necessary conditions in order to operate legally.
Mr. Ukel explained that those conditions included proper buildings, libraries and qualified lecturers.
He denied accusations in the press that he was against learning in South Sudan.
Mr. Ukel made these statements while attending the inauguration of the newly elected Students Union of the Catholic University of Sudan in Juba Campus last Saturday.
