Farmers in Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria launched a seed fair yesterday in a bid to share seeds and tools with returnees’ families.

The director of Food Security and Information at the State Agole Kawa Amoth told the farmers that the seed fair exercise was very important because agriculture is the main source of livelihood in the area.

He added that providing seeds to returnee farmers was a contribution to saving government’s money that could be used in importing from neighbouring countries.

The head of Food Agriculture Organization in South Sudan, George Okech, said the seed fair exercise targeted returnees from Khartoum and Juba.

He added that it was an intervention to boost food production as farmers identify agricultural inputs they need and the type of crops that grow in their farms.

Chief Angelo Benard Bodi told SCR News that the program has helped farmers to make money and create a market for many products available because there is no market in the area.

Seed fair activities started yesterday at Abara Boma and will proceed to Owinkybul today and then Magwi Boma tomorrow.
