Eastern Equatoria state government has directed the military police to enforce prohibition of guns in Torit town.

The state governor Louis Lojore Lobong told Radio Emmanuel that military police are charged responsibly to keep guns of members of the organized forces on transit who want to visit their families in Torit town.

Governor Lobong added that the forces alternatively can leave their guns in the cars they travel in or take them to the military barracks if they sleep in town adding that they are strictly not allowed to go home with guns.
He stressed the state Security Council has informed the SPLA commanders, the prisons, police and other civil forces in the state to let visitors abide by the regulation.
Governor Lobong asserted that the gun prohibition in town is a mechanism initiated by the state to minimize cases of insecurity.

State council of ministers, last week, resolved that nobody should carry guns in Torit town unless on duty.
The resolution followed series of killing as a result of gun shots linked to security officials in the state.
At least five people were unlawfully shot dead in Torit town in the recent weeks.
