The Presidency has agreed on the security arrangement for Abyei, implemented by the Joint Integrated Units and Joint Integrated Police Units.

The news was disclosed by the African Union Panel on Sudan yesterday.

The panel, led by former President Thabo Mbeki, has been actively consulting with the NCP and the SPLM on proposals with a view to resolving the Abyei impasse.

The AU announced that Khartoum and Juba will hold a Special Session on Post-Referendum Security Arrangements, on Saturday, in Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, the UNMIS commander said both northern and southern armies have been deploying forces with heavy weapons to Abyei, Reuters reported.

The Nigerian General added that satellite images show evidence that both sides have militarized Abyei with all sorts of military hardware including rocket-propelled grenade, multi-barrel rocket launchers, and machine-guns mounted on wheels.
