The Catholic bishop of Rumbek asked for an end of tribal clashes that are taking place in Mapuordit Payam and urged the warring communities to solve their differences through dialogue.

Yesterday, an adult and two children were killed near Mapuorit, victims of intertribal fighting between Dinka of Lakes State and Jur of Western Equatoria.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari regretted the spat of violence that killed dozens of people and displaced some 30,000 during the last two weeks in Mapuordit Payam.

He added that differences should be settled through dialogue.

Bishop Mazzolari confirmed that Mapuordit Comboni primary and secondary schools and the minor seminary will reopen on Wednesday.

He appealed to the UN and other organizations for tents, plastic sheeting, food, blankets, utensils and seeds to resettle the displaced in their places of origin.

The governors of Lakes and Western Equatoria had agreed to visit Mapuordit last Saturday to try to stop the deadly clashes but the meeting was postponed to an unknown date.
