The Catholic Archbishop of Juba has called on the Government of South Sudan to explain why no representative of the Catholic Church has been appointed in the technical committee revising the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan.

GoSS information minister Barnaba Marial Benjiamin met today with the Archbishop and other Church personnel in Juba and apologized for the oversight.

Dr. Marial explained that the role of the Catholic Church is needed in the present revision of the Interim Constitution, but much more in the broad-based Constitutional Commission, which will be convened after the declaration of independence to elaborate the real constitution of the Republic of South Sudan .

The meeting was attended by priests, religious and Church personnel.

During the meeting, Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro presented the agenda for the next Bishops’ plenary assembly and asked the Church personnel to present thoughts and suggestions to the bishops.
