The Church in South Sudan has the ability to take the lead in HIV and Aids awareness campaigns among the citizens of the new nation to be.
This was said by David Juma Augustine, the deputy team leader of Christian Health Association of Sudan.Mr. Juma said the Church is better placed to lead in the awareness campaign against Aids since the fight against HIV involves behavioral change and spiritual transformation.
He maintained that moral values that lead to a healthy and a safe lifestyle can be best transmitted by the Church.
Speaking about the workshop his organization is conducting in Rumbek, Mr. Juma said that CHAS is targeting the ECS leadership teams in the five dioceses in Lakes State, among them, bishops, diocesan secretaries, youth leaders, women leaders, pastors, diocesan development officers, health coordinators, among others.
He also said that the workshop will help each diocese to formulate a strategic plan in the HIV and Aids awareness campaign, explaining that such a plan will help the dioceses carry out specific activities and manage challenges.
The four-day workshop is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday in Rumbek.
