South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) and World Food Program are assisting affected people by the ongoing tribal skirmishes around Mapurdit Payam in Yirol West County of Lakes State, that left over 50,000 in need of urgent assistance.

SSRRC Director for Yirol West County Joseph Mading told Good News Radio that his office is facilitating the distribution of food stuff donated by WFP to some 457 IDPs temporarily settling at Mapuordit after they were dislodged from Mvolo County in Western Equatoria.

Mr. Mading called on other UN agencies to assist many other IDPs, most of them sheltered under trees and lacking basic human needs like water and food.

Mapuordit Deputy Payam Administrator, Moses Mabor Magak, pleaded with the government to assist over 50 thousand displaced persons in Mapuordit payam alone after two weeks of violence sparkled off when motor cyclist Makoi Amuom was shot dead at Kagumo cattle camp last February.

Mr. Mabor appealed to the two communities to stop the violent clashes and to embark on rebuilding their destroyed lives and houses before the rains start.

Meanwhile, a veteran staff at Mapuordit Hospital, Eli Mading Panther, regretted the lack of security agents around Mapuordit, adding that the county commissioner had not shown up by Saturday to see for himself the state of his people.

Mr. Mading said 38 people were killed in the clashes, adding that many of the wounded sought local treatment for broken bones preferring traditional healers to medical doctors.
