A driver and a passenger who sustained injuries during a road attack at Idolu Bridge along the Torit-Hiyala highway in Easter Equatoria are under medical treatment at Torit civil Hospital.

The driver identified as Ahmed Yusuf said on Wednesday he was carrying a team from a mobile phone company from Hiyala when unknown gunmen ambushed them on their way back to Torit, Emmanuel Radio reported.

The driver, who was shot on both legs, explained that he was part of a convoy of three cars and the first vehicle passed safely.

Mr. Yusuf said the attackers were dressed with military uniforms and some fired from trees while others were on the ground as they shot at the cars.

Eastern Equatoria State Acting Police Commissioner Brig. Martin Wani said the attackers took off after they spotted security personnel in one vehicle.

The victims who sustained more serious injuries were taken to Juba for treatment.

The police are investigating the road ambush.

Eastern Equatoria roads are becoming increasing insecurity after the referendum.
