GoSS agriculture minister said South Sudan needs to establish an agricultural bank after independence to support the farming community.

Ann Itto told journalists yesterday, following a meeting with Sudan Agricultural Bank manager in Juba that she discussed the possibility of establishing a bank that will be owned by the Government of South Sudan.

She said the ministry was working on the bill that may take some five months to become law.

Dr. Itto added that GoSS will mobilize resources after the declaration of independence to allow the South to have its agricultural bank.

She said once the bank is established it needs capital to lend to clients.

Rual Macwi Thiang, regional manager of Agricultural Bank of Sudan, said the bank will boost agriculture in order to export food to African and Arab neighbours within three years.
