The UNMIS met with representatives from the governments of Juba and Khartoum to discuss the current security situation in Abyei following the latest bout of violence that started on Sunday.
The meeting took place yesterday in Abyei at UNMIS headquarters and it was attended by senior officials from the Government of Sudan, headed by Presidential Advisor Salah Gosh, UNMIS said in a press release.SPLA affairs Nhial Deng led a GoSS delegation.
The Governor of Southern Kordofan and the Chief Administrator of the Abyei Area were also in the meeting together with a UNMIS delegation headed by Haile Menkerios, the chief of the mission.
The meeting adopted specific steps to ensure the implementation of the Kadugli Agreements of 13 and 17 January signed between the Dinka Ngok and the Misseriya communities.
These include establishing a standing committee consisting of representatives from GoSS and GoNU, SPLA and SAF and the two police forces and security services as well as the command of the JIUs.
