Leaders from the three Equatoria states have pledged never to support again wars on their land after hosting the South Sudan liberation struggle for decades.
The pledge was taken during a two-day consultative meeting held in Yambio from February 23 to 25.Eastern Equatoria education minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam attended the Yambio meeting. He told Emmanuel Radio that the leadership of the Eastern, Central and Western Equatoria states vowed no longer to accept the land to be used as battlefield after two wars of liberation.
The leaders condemned LRA rebel atrocities in Western Equatoria saying it is impeding development in the region.
The leaders issued a call for unity among the people of Greater Equatoria and the need to face problems that affect harmony in the region.
The leaders added that through unity the people can explore and strengthen areas of common interest for effective social, economic, cultural and political and independence of south Sudan.
