GoSS ministry of higher education has postponed the opening of universities relocated from Khartoum to South Sudan due to lack of structures to accommodate the students.

Minister Joseph Ukel told the press today in Juba that the universities were to be opened in April but due to lack of students’ accommodation they will open on May 15.

He added that the postponement will give the authorities a chance to negotiate the release of university assets confiscated in the North.

Mr. Ukel said the ministry was able to relocate at least eighty percent of the students from Khartoum.

He also revealed that more than eighty percent of the lecturers were from the North and they are not willing to relocate to the south.

Mr. Ukel said some lecturers would be hired from outside South Sudan.
