In a bid to improve education standards in Lakes State, Save the Children has partnered with Lakes State Ministry of Education to train teachers.
Speaking at the launch of the one-month training, the Education Program Manager for Save the Children, Enock Mabili, said that the training programs were approved by the government, Good News Radio reported.He also asserted that the new South Sudan has to have education as one of its priorities if it is to move on.
Francis Sewanyama, a teacher trainer specialized in Mathematics, acknowledged the presence of five female teachers among those receiving training, adding that South Sudan needs to overcome the obstacles surrounding the education of women.
Meanwhile, the Director of Education of Rumbek East County, Abel Khook Thoong, encouraged the teachers attending the training to take the course seriously since it will add value to their profession.
He assured the teachers that the issue of their salaries is being looked into by the relevant authorities.
An in-service teachers’ training course kicked yesterday at Riak Dor Primary School in Rumbek, targeting 60 primary school teachers from Rumbek East and Rumbek Central counties.
