Most of South Sudanese living in Darfur voted for unity during the referendum that concluded on Saturday.
UNAMID said in yesterday’s daily media brief that 55 per cent of participants in the referendum voted for unity in Darfur.Over 12 thousand people cast their ballot out of some 23 thousand registered in the region, representing a turnout of 52 per cent.
The Catholic Radio Network (CRN) is a media project constituted by community-based radio stations broadcasting in Frequency Modulation from Juba, Yei, Torit, Yambio, Rumbek, Tonj, Wau, and Malakal. CRN has also a station in the Nuba Mountains. All the stations share the same vision and mission, and are bound by common editorial and administrative policies. All stations broadcast shared programs in English: news, civic education, and other educational programs. Due to the heterogeneous realities of South Sudan, each station is rooted in its locality and broadcasts locally produced culture-sensitive programs in the languages which are understood by the local people. For its outreach, CRN has a potential audience of about seven million people, considering the influx of returnees to South Sudan after the Sudan Population Census 2008.
