Wau Catholic Hospital opened yesterday its outpatient department while full rehabilitation works progresses.

St. Daniel Comboni Catholic Hospital OPD provides maternal and child health care, consultation and medication, laboratory and scanning services.

It has a three-bed emergency room for first aid treatments.

Minor surgery services will be available soon.

A team of Comboni Missionary Sisters and Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa have been working since September to obtain all the necessary licenses to open the Hospital and prepare its statutes.

Comboni Sister Joyce Ajio, who is in charge of the OPD services, said the preparation work was very long and hard.

She added that all staff members were very willing to do their best to provide a quality service to the patients in Wau and surroundings.

Nineteen local people, including support and paramedical staff, are working in the OPD.

The reconstruction of a 25-bed inpatients ward should be also completed and operational by the end of February.

The hospital was taken from the Catholic Church in 1957 by the military and given back in 2008 after a long process of negotiations.
